Child Car Seat safety tips
If your child (UK only) is below 12 years old or below 135cm (whichever comes first) needs to be in a travel child seat when they are travelling in your car. Follow those simple tips below for better safety:
1. Choose a baby travel seat that has the right weight range for your child. Your child cannot use a child travel seat that is not suitable for their weight.
2. You must thoroughly read through the instruction manual for the infant seat fully before you start installing it into your car. The instruction book will tell you easy steps on how to install your childs travel seat.
3. Allow plenty of time when you install the child seat to ensure it is fitted correctly. Correct installation is very important.
4. Be aware of what seats in your car are the safest for a child car seat to sit. The middle of the back seats in the vehicle is the safest part of the car for your kid but only if the child seat is approved to be installed using the type of seat belt that is in your vehicle in that seat of the car. The seat which is next safest is the left side of the back seat (the seat directly behind the front passenger seat) as it is further away from cars on the road. The rear right side of the car is the next best place in the car for your kid (the side closer to traffic).
5. It is illegal for a rearward facing infant seat to be in the front seat of the car when the airbag is switched on. Even with the airbag deactivated, it is still recommended to put your infants rear facing seat in the rear of the car.
6. If the child car seat isn’t secure, simply re-tighten the seat belt and give the baby seat another shake to check there is small movement.
7. Take the childs travel seat to a garage if you would rather get them to check that the childs seat is secure enough.
